1814 50C AU-58 PCGS #6105

Owner's Comments

CACG graded (green sticker). O.103. CAC data (2/2/2026): 10 total, 3 on grade, 2 higher. Bought at the 2026 Winter Fun Show in Orlando. Quality of strike for 1814 is generally good, but the die clashing problem prevalent in 1813 is even worse in 1814. Clashed dies occur when the obverse and reverse working dies come together without a planchet between them. 1814 produced some of the most severely clashed dies of the entire series. The edge dies were modified in 1814 to include a * between the words dollar and fifty on the edge lettering. This coin has numerous clash marks on the obverse, and a heavy die defect ridge joins the central part of the left wing to scroll below E on the reverse. 81 is much closer than 18 or 14 on the obverse.
