In 1818, the head of Liberty was modified slightly and is of lower relief than on the issues from 1813-1815. In my experience, the difference in rarity between the so-called "normal dies" variety, the variety with STATESOF as one word, and the variety with 5D over 50 is minimal. At any rate, none of the three major varieties commands a premium price over the others. As a date, the 1818 is decidedly more rare than the 1813 but not quite as rare as the 1814/3 and 1820 Square Base 2. Choice uncirculated specimens are very rare.PCGS #
