A World Record auction price for a Middle Date large cent(1816-1839)was set in the Goldberg/McCawley-Grellman sale of the incomaparable Ted Naftzger Collection, Part II. Lot#139 in the Feb.1,2009 sale, a beautiful 1823 cent graded MS 65 Brown, brought $126,500. This was the first time a middle date cent ever reached six figures. But the the record only lasted about three minutes. Lot 140, another fabulous 1823 cent graded MS66 Brown, brought an astounding $299,000.PCGS #
