The Second Holy Grail. An astonishing R-8.8 rarity with only ~31 known survivors, this 1823/2 Capped Bust Quarter stands apart as a monument to true classical numismatics. Originating from the distinguished collection of the late William Alonzo Rinehart IV, this coin embodies an 'old school' philosophy—where character, history, and the pure soul of a piece take precedence over a numeric grade. Mr. Rinehart was the quintessential collector's collector, and following the path he forged is both an honor and a guiding light for the D.T. Cabinet. An absolute privilege to have this second of two 1823/2 quarters in this eclectic collection.

According to Steve Tompkins' recent reference, 31 examples of this famous rarity are known. I'd guess there are a few low-grade ones yet to be discovered. The finest seen is a gem Proof with a pedigree tracing all the way back to Levick. Two Mint States are next, followed by two AU's (one from Norweb 1538) and four XF's, including Eliasberg 1386. More than half of the known specimens grade VG or lower.
