Among Proof coins from the 1840's, the 1841 Large Cent in Proof is one of the most plentiful. Estimates of as many as thirty examples have been bandied about and we know of at least twenty. Most (if not all) are of the Newcomb 1 variety. Strike quality varies. Most of the known examples show strong details, but others are weak on the tip of the coronet or on some or all of the stars.

One of the benefits of the larger-than-usual population is an affordable price. In average grade, this date is one of the best values among all Proof Large Cents.

Brown and Red-Brown examples appear on the market in fairly equal proportions. Full Red examples are extremely rare.
