1858 25C, CAM PR64+ CAM Certification #25787967, PCGS #85554

Owner's Comments

This is a beautifully toned and exceptionally nice example. In 1858, the mint began the mass marketing of Proof coins to the general public, and as such, the Proof coins of this date are quite popular. Though Proofs of earlier vintages were produced, they were produced in much smaller and sporadic quantities. Beautiful peripheral toning frames highly reflective fields and frosty, well struck devices. There is a wonderful cameo contrast between the fields and devices. The eye appeal is outstanding! Only 300 Proofs were produced. PCGS 8, NGC 2, CAC 2. There are 2 in PR64+ CAM and just a single PR65 CAM graded finer. Legend Auction 10/2020 Attractive Toning, Modest Contrast 1858 25C PR64+ Cameo PCGS. CAC. Briggs 5-E. The 1858 was the first proof Seated quarter issue marketed to the public, increasing sales and production over the trivial levels of years past. But examples of this issue are nonetheless scarce in all grades and highly sought-after. The present Cameo displays a full strike and deeply mirrored fields. A hint of champagne toning graces the interiors, while the borders show deeper amber, violet, and blue hues. Population: 7 in 64 (1 in 64+) Cameo, 1 finer. CAC: 3 in 64, 1 finer.
