1860 $5 VG8 Certification #15586554, PCGS #8284

Expert Comments

David Akers (1975/88)

The 1860 is rare in all grades and is virtually identical in overall rarity to the 1859. It is more rare than the lower mintage 1858 and more difficult to obtain than any of the Philadelphia Mint Half Eagles from 1843-1857 except possibly 1850. Almost all known specimens are VF or EF and strictly uncirculated examples are extremely rare.
