This is the first issue of the new type with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added to the reverse above the eagle. As a date, the 1866 is less rare than the three Philadelphia Mint issues immediately preceding but it is just about as difficult to obtain in high grade. I have seen one choice uncirculated piece but this particular coin has never appeared on the numismatic market. It is the variety with the date double punched. Most available examples of this very rare date grade no better than VF or EF. Only two or three AU's are known and the mint state piece mentioned is probably unique.PCGS #
