David Akers (1975/88)

Very scarce in all grades and, according to our 192 auction catalogue sample, nearly the same rarity as the 1863. However, I must admit that I have seen more examples of the 1867 than I have of the 1863, as well as more choice specimens. Like all gold dollars from the early 1860's on, when available, the 1867 is almost invariably high grade. Gems are such as the outstanding coin in Superior's October, 1974 sale do appear from time to time. Some specimens are seen with the reverse clash marks and the word LIBERTY showing in an arc below the date.
