Extremely tough Philadelphia date in any condition let alone with a PCGS non-details grade. While I like this coin (because it’s a PCGS non-details grade w/retro PCGS label) my favorite coin (Ex: Lermish) is in my duplicates set. The “Readers Digest” version is 74-P is H A R D; The lesson? If an acceptable 74-P becomes available and you are reasonably satisfied it is “P” then get it! This tough chop mark date has been written about extensively over the years given its relative scarcity compared to a plentiful mintage and unbelievably remains very hard to come by. In his seminal analysis of chopmarked coins, Rose wrote that among US Trade Dollars, "on the surface, there is no reason why the '74 P should be hard to find with chopmarks, since its mintage is 987,000, but in fact it is the third toughest to locate."
