Even though high grade CC dollars still in their first generation 1.2 holder rattler holders are very scarce to begin with - Key dates (UNDERSTANDABLY) are ballistically rare. This coin is a super nice blast white CC of the plain die variety, conservatively graded (in my opinion). When PCGS moved on from the Rattlers their were 75 coins graded higher than this coin at 64 at MS64 and 11 at MS65 - my Holder Analytic research was able to uncover 58 in MS64 and 23 in MS65 coins no longer in their original rattler skins due to reconsideration/regrading by their owners - making this coin quite possibly a top pop coin to boot. - in fact after 35 more years of grading - I have only seen two coins still in a Rattler holder MS63 - both with her CAC approval proudly acknowledging her quality.

The 1879-CC Silver Dollar is a very popular date. As one of the scarcest CC-Mint Morgan Dollars, it has an allure all its own. The mintmark is found either rusted or unrusted. The rusted version is often called the "Capped Die" or the "Capped CC." Of the two varieties, the non-rusted version is the most common and has a certified population about twice that of the Capped CC.

Hundreds of MS63 and MS64 examples have been certified, but collector demand keeps prices high. None have been graded finer than MS66.
