1888/7 1C, BN AU58BN Certification #21286192, PCGS #2169
Owner's Comments
Ex: Dickson. EEPS. CAC. Soft, chocolate BN. Minimal wear on high points. Upper flag of 7 clearly seen poking out of the 3rd 8. Good diamond detail; any feather weakness attributable to characteristics of this date. The 1888/7 S-1 is the most coveted & rarest variety of the entire IHC series.
Update 10/26/24: PDS (11: 3,4,4). There are a few light marks on the obv; the rev is relatively mark free & slightly lighter than the obv in color. There is a debris strike-through on the 8th feather that appears on 50% of the examples. The overdate feature is very bold as is the diagnostic cud appearing at 9:00. The coin appeared in the 8/21 HA auction which is its only such appearance.

The 1888 over 7 Indian Cent is a very popular variety in the Indian Cent series. The 8 digit was apparently struck over a 7 digit on the date. Towards the top left hand portion of the last 8 digit on the date, there are traces of the top portion of the 7 digit. Also, towards the bottom of the 8, there is also a small raised lump which is the lower portion of the 7 digit.
This variety is scarce in all grades and especially in Uncirculated grades, it's practically unknown as there are very few confirmed in Uncirculated condition.
