1898 $2.50 Gold Liberty PCGS MS66+ (CAC) PHENOMENAL! In our opinion, this coin has SUPER HIGH END and unbeatable quality! We LOVE this fresh and zesty looking coin. Phenomenal thick satiny surfaces are pretty much deprived of hits or any problems. Using a strong glass only confirms this. There are just a few tiny lines on the face (you need a glass to see)A strong luster makes the coin really stand out. Both sides are a GEM original pale orange/pinkish yellow gold color. There NO discolorations or spots. Miss Liberty and the details are super frosty and are fully struck. The eye appeal is like the quality PHENOMENAL! PCGS 51, NGC 51, CAC 24. PCGS has graded 6 in MS66+. The last one to sell via auction brought $3,240.00 in 2018-that was light years ago! The current Collectors Universe value is $4,250.00. Do NOT be fooled by the pops. The 1898 Quarter Eagle is a common coin in the sense that there is an adequate supply to satisfy most collector demand.  Of the dates in the 1890s, the 1898 is in the middle of the pack -- not as common as the 1897, but nowhere near as scarce as the 1892 and 1894.  However, compared to the mega-populations of the dates in the early 1900s, this date is far less common.

MS67 examples make up a high percentage of the PCGS Condition Census, indicating the overall quality of this date and the attention paid to it by collectors.

A moderately scarce date that is usually seen in Unc. or proof. Decidedly underpriced and underrated and actually more rare as a date than the popular 1911-D. (The 1911-D is, however, much more rare in uncirculated condition than the dates of the late 1890's since, although the dates from 1896 to 1899 are generally seen in choice condition, the majority of 1911-D quarter eagles are circulated.)
