1899-S $5 MS62 Certification #02873016, PCGS #8399

This coin was bid for on Greatcollections.com and it began @ 9:35:58 pm on the 17th of October 2022 with an opening bid of $300.00. The auction had 8 bidders make 20 bids and I bid @ 8:37:25 am on the 28th of October 2022 and began with a bid of $525.00 and had bidder #8 make 2 bids @ 9:19:43 am & 9:19:56 am on the 29th of October 2022 after I first entered that raised my bid to the winning bid of $635.51 and the auction ended @ 6:36:30 pm PDT on the 30th of October 2022. On the 14th of November 2022, I examined this coin with my Vantage 10X Loupe and describe it thusly. The Obverse has light marks on the back of the neck, a stronger mark on the lower chin bone, many light scratches, and several heavier marks in the field to the left of Liberty's mouth, a large round mark to the left of the nose and several lighter marks to the left of her forehead, light scuffing on the cheek and a small mark on the bridge of the nose and another on the eyelash, some small marks by the star at the banner on her head and a mark just to the left of the "L" of "LIBERTY", light marks in the field below the hair bun and down toward the date. The Reverse has strong marks at the bottom on both sides of the date, marks below the "UNIT" of "UNITED", marks between the wing and leaves of the branch, marks between the back of the Eagle's head and the "WE TRUST" of the banner, a mark below the 2nd "T" & 2nd "S" of "STATES", numerous marks between the right wing and the "AMER" of "AMERICA, 2 stronger marks above the top arrowhead. This is a nice coin. This coin is held in a PCGS Generation 4.0 holder used from October 1998 to February of 2002.

The 1899-S is similar in rarity to the 1898-S. It is not particularly scarce as a date but it is not common either, at least not in choice uncirculated condition.
