Owner's Comments
A touch of the original factory finish peeks through this mostly chocolate brown Indian Head cent. Solid strike with clear "LIBERTY", headband definition, and hair definition.
Variety 1901 RPD-007/ 1901 Snow-6
James Longacre wrote in support of the design and Liberty's headdress, that "It is more appropriate than the Phrygian cap" because that is the classic symbol of emancipated people. Mr. Longacre argued that the headdress, on the other hand, symbolised genuine freedom and declared "''we were never in bondage to any man'. I regard then this emblem of America as a proper and well defined portion of our national inheritance..."
