The 1924 is the most common issue of the Saint-Gaudens series. In fact, it is by far the most common issue of the four 20th-century gold series. In all grades up to and including gem Uncirculated (MS-65), the 1924 is available in quantity. Below MS-65, it is available in very large quantities. A substantial number of superb MS-67 quality pieces exist, and there are also more than a few virtually perfect ones in existence.

With so many specimens in existence (literally thousands), it is not surprising that the 1924 varies more widely than most issues in terms of luster, strike, color, etc. However, it is possible to say that the typical 1924 is very sharply struck and fully frosty with very good to excellent luster. The color is usually a light to medium orange gold, but there are also very coppery gold ones and light to medium yellow gold ones.
