Many rolls of the 1936 S were saved as this coin is common even in uncirculated condition. Dozens have been slabbed by PCGS and NGC in the grade of MS67, and many more among each of the lower Mint States grades.

The 1936-S is common in all grades though in mint state and Gem condition it is the scarcest of the 1936 to 1938 non-variety issues. The strike is usually sharp for a San Francisco Mint Buffalo nickel and luster is typically of the grey brilliant type.
