Owner's Comments
Labor Relations and Europe goes to War. In NLRB v. Fansteel Metallurgical Corp. (1939), the Supreme Court held that employees who seized their employer's property through sit-down strikes could be discharged despite protections under federal labor law. The decision balanced workers' statutory rights against property rights and the rule of law. Elsewhere, World War II breaks out in Europe.

The 1939-S is the most available San Francisco Mint Walking Liberty half dollar of the 1930s. It is the rarest of the three 1939 issues though. There are many frosty white, highly lustrous gems and for an S-mint, strike is relatively good on this issue.
