The 1949-D Franklin Half has a mintage of a little over 4 million. However, many Franklin Half Dollars have been melted over the years including this issue. Examples in MS64 condition and lower seem to be abundant and very easy to obtain, with very small premiums between grades. Examples in MS65 are much scarcer and command a strong premium over MS64 examples, usually hundreds of dollars more. In MS66 condition they are really scarce with less than 100 examples known. There are no examples in MS67 condition or higher, making it one of the tougher issues in the series in MS66 condition.
