In 1965 the Mint introduced a new reverse design for the Washington Quarter. The 1965 design displayed sharper details on the leaves of the wreath on the reverse design. This 1965 reverse design is also referred to as a Type C design and is found on most 1965 quarters. Very few 1964 Quarters are known with a Type C design that it makes it a very scarce variety in the Washington Quarter series.
