The 1972-P Lincoln Cent is very common up to MS65 condition and can still be found in circulation. Coins grading MS66 or higher can still be found in rolls or mint sets. Examples in MS67 are scarce with less than 100 known. There are also a few known MS67+ graded examples but none in any higher condition.

There were numerous doubled die varieties created this year for the 1972 Lincoln Cent. Only one of them is considered to be the major variety, all others are considered to be minor varieties, even though some are dramatic. Some of the doubled die varieties for this year are also very scarce. For example, the FS-104 Doubled DIe is really scarce with less than a dozen examples known.
