The obverse and reverse master hubs were recreated in order to refine some of the details that were softening over the years. On the obverse, the details in Jefferson’s hair were strengthened. On the reverse, the details on Monticello were generally strengthened.
Struck only as Proofs and available originally only in Proof sets.

Most 1977-S Proof Jefferson nickels came in really nice quality. Examples in PR69 Deep Cameo appear to be the norm. In perfect PR70 Deep Cameo condition, they are much scarcer.
