With a mere mintage of 5,174, the 1997 Uncirculated $5 Jackie Robinson Commemorative is the lowest-mintage U.S .commemorative coin produced from 1982 to 2009.

Because of its very low mintage, the 1997 Jackie Robinson Commemorative has always been an extremely popular coin. Coincidentally, it is also the most valuable modern commemorative coin struck from 1982-2009.

The U.S. Mints pre-issue price for the $5 Uncirculated coin was $180 each. After August 15, 1997, the U.S. Mint offered the Uncirculated coin for $205 each. By 1999, the coins were selling for well over $1,000 each! The Mint also produced an uncirculated and proof silver dollar with the Jackie Robinson design.

Finally, the Mint also offered a four-piece set. The four-piece set contained a silver $1 Jackie Robinson uncirculated and proof commemorative coin. It also contained a gold $5 Jackie Robinson uncirculated and proof commemorative coin. The pre-issue price for the four-piece set was $425. After August 15, the four-piece set was priced at $460 by the U.S. Mint.
