This is the second year in which the U.S. Mint has ever struck a Jefferson nickel with a mintage over 1 billion. The mintage for the 1999-P Jefferson nickel is approximately 1,212,000,000. The only other year that Mint struck over a billion coins was in 1964, as in that year it struck well over a billion coins, each from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints.

It is fairly easy to find 1999-P Jefferson nickels since the Mint produced many of them. Only in MS67 grade or higher are they difficult to find.
