From the year 2000-2008 the Mint produced Sacagawea Dollars with the same obverse and reverse design. Then in 2009 the Mint introduced a new version called the Native American Dollar. These coins had the same obverse design as all Sacagawea Dollars, except for the reverse as they now contained different designs. These new reverse designs honored Native Americans as well as their significant contributions made to this country.

The 2001-P Sacagawea Dollar is one of the more common issues in the series as it has a very high mintage of over 62,460,000 coins struck. Compare its mintage to that of the 2008 Sacagawea Dollars with a mintage of 1.82 million. The 2001-P Sacagawea Dollar is only somewhat scarce in MS68 but they still exist in the thousands. In MS69 condition they are very scarce with less than 100 examples known and none being graded higher.
