The 2001-W Proof Gold Eagle experienced a low demand from collectors compared to the previous years. The decrease in demand was more than likely caused by the low prices of gold during the time. Some of the other Proof Gold Eagles in lower denominations also showed a decrease in sales compared to previous years.

Most cons came in great condition with most examples being PR68 and PR69 Deep Cameo condition.
