Owner's Comments
[RG-060]* 2003 Netherlands 5 Euro Vincent van Gogh PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This silver gem features an impressionistic rendering of Queen Beatrix on one side and a Vincent van Gogh self-portrait on the flip side. Their portraits are rendered with repetitious text to form a pixelated image against impressive perfectly black mirrors to create striking works of art. "KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN" is used to create the Queen's image; fittingly it translates Queen of the Netherlands. "VINCENT VAN GOGH" is used to create the artist's image. There were 100,000 proof-like strikes. This perfectly rendered piece is one of my favorites; but, then, I've always been partial of impressionist art. It's one of those things that causes one to do a double-take and agree, "Man, that's cool!" Set History for Slot 60: There were a number of coins from the Netherlands that offered a glimpse of Beatrix, including her standing by a window; when I came across this design. I'm a fan of van Gogh anyway, so it was a no-brainer. I've submitted several for grading and most came back perfect... so it really is a good place to start. * Number 60 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.”
