The 2012 $50 Uncirculated Gold Eagles initially went on sale on January 03, 2012. The coins were only sold to Mint Authorize Purchasers at a slight premium above the spot price of gold. Authorized pourchasers in return sell them, to other dealers, collectors and investors.

The Mint sold four different denominations this year as it has in the past. This included the $5, $10, $25 and $50 Gold Eagles. The Mint also offered 2012 Proof Gold eagles in all for all four different denominations as well.
