The $5 2022-W Proof Gold Eagles officially went on sale on the U.S. Mint website, on March 17, 2022. The $5 2022-W Proof Gold Eagles could have been ordered as a single coin option or as a 4 piece proof set from the United States Mint. The price of the coins fluctuated depending on any major price movements on the spot price of gold. The previous year, or in 2021, the U.S. Mint used two different designs, a Type 1 and a Type 2 design. The 2022 Proof Gold Eagles feature the newer Type 2 designs.
