Spanish 8 Escudos GOLD or _4 Doubloons_ King Carlos IV
8 Reales or _pieces of eight_ , the original Spanish Dollar. These are difficult to find with a numerical grade. The majority just say "Details" and have been cleaned, damaged, chopmarked, tooled etc. To separate them from later 8 Reales coins, collectors refer to these as Pillar Dollars and they have no portrait of the king.

Mintage of 138,618, which is the most for the $3 gold piece. Still, not a common coin.

🥇🥇This is a scarce date coin with only 5000 minted and the $3 gold piece is overall scarce. Three Auctions of PCGS-certified coins from 2022 to 2024 achieved over $6000 each, so I decided to invest in this coin for rarity rather than "size" or bullion value. Besides, it's weird. 🙃

The PCGS slab states it was from the European Bank Crisis, which occurred in 2008-9 and many people ran to gold.

Scarcer Charlotte mint coin. Hard to find a graded coin (AU-50) that was not cleaned or tampered with. To quote numismatist Doug Winter, "The majority have been cleaned at one time and original examples are very rare and desirable."
