About This Set:
A complete, original set of petition patterns produced by prolific Munich based medalist and artist Karl Goetz. Goetz was active for the majority of the first half of the 20th century, with his work reflecting on social and political discourse of his native Bavaria, Germany, and the world. This series of patterns was produced to demonstrate his design and engraving skills to officials in Bavaria in a bid to design the coinage of the incoming King, Ludwig III. Ludwig served as Prince Regent for his Uncle Otto, who was declared mentally unfit to rule. Ascending to the throne in 1913, after Otto's death, Ludwig ruled as King for over 5 years before being deposed in the political turmoil that engulfed Germany following the Great War.
This set has been preserved in it's original case, and exists as a relic from a Bavaria and Europe that no longer exist.
