About This Set:
Put into circulation in 1960 to put an end to the increasing devaluation of the franc, the new franc enabled France to simplify the convertibility of its currency by setting its value at 180 milligrams of fine gold. To mark the return to a stable currency, the new franc was struck in the effigy of the pre-1914 sower.
