Heritage Auctions Description: 1916 Cent, PR65 Red and Brown Last-Year Matte Proof Finish, CAC 1916 1C PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. The 1916 cent is very elusive in proof, as only 1,050 pieces were produced. It is the final issue to feature a matte finish, and also the last issue of proof cents until 1936. The Mint introduced a new master this year that enhanced design details, and a bold strike on this piece has produced razor-sharp details. This Choice Gem in Red and Brown delivers exceptional eye appeal, with original orange-copper mint luster revealing dramatic overtones of emerald and lilac upon rotation. Deeper hues of plum also surface on the reverse, driving a vibrant cartwheel effect. Abrasions and carbon spots are minimal and microscopic. CAC endorsement acknowledges the quality of this beautiful proof.
A cool type one proof with a mostly reddish, golden-amber obverse color and some interesting blue-green rim toning. Really nice surfaces and matte luster. A choice example.

I never thought that I would own a proof 68 Buffalo nickel, the prices were just too intimidating. So here we are and I was able to purchase this stunning coin in June 2026. The colors really do look as good in hand as they do in the TrueView. I’m including part of the Legend Auction description when this coin sold in August 2020. Monumental quality for this early Proof Buffalo. Only 1,514 pieces were struck and this stellar example is tied with the ABSOLUE FINEST examples known today. Beautifully toned and totally worthy of its lofty designation. The eye appeal is exceptional and it is a perfect combination of nickel blue at the centers and framed in varying shades of gold, yellow and crimson on both sides! The strike is bold throughout, as expected for a Proof.
Stack's Bowers auction description: 1916 5C PR67 PCGS This richly toned specimen exhibits intermingled highlights of powder blue and reddish-gold on mauve-gray patina. Fully struck, as befits a Proof, with a smooth satin texture. This is the Larry H. Miller coin sold by Stack's Bowers auctions in November 2020. It was under graded as a proof 65 in that sale and subsequently regraded as a proof 67. I purchased it from U.S. Coins and Jewelry in March 2021.
Stack's Bowers auction description: This beautiful Superb Gem Proof reveals subtle undertones of powder blue and champagne-gold as the otherwise silver-tinged surfaces dip into a light. The strike is full, the finish brilliant, and the quality is expectably strong at the assigned grade level. An excellent candidate for inclusion in a high grade Proof type or date set.
Really nice white satin surfaces with almost no marks. Looks much nicer in person than my images.
Nice high grade 17-D type one quarter. In person the coin has much better luster, my images look darker than the actual coin does. One of the first coins that I purchased with a CAC sticker.
