In 1939, all denominations 1 Mark and above were discontinued in Germany, leaving the 50 Pfennig as the highest denomination coin until 1950. Large quantities of these coins were produced and most went into circulation, resulting in a scarcity today of high grade examples. While AU examples can be found with ease, full Gems of any date are quite scarce, while others can be considered downright rare. The "key" date in this series is the 1944-G.
