1794 1/2C C-9 MS65BN PCGS #35063

CAC - C-9, B-9, R.2. Breen Die State II, Manley Die State 2.0. Small edge letters as always for the High Relief varieties, C-7, C-8, and C-9. Delicately cracked from the rim at 9:30 into the cap, and through the tops of IBERTY. Heavy clash marks are evident throughout the hair locks. There is no evidence of the late-state rim break through the dentils left of the fraction. A well-struck piece that has full cartwheel luster with rich steel-blue toning in the central obverse on lovely olive-brown surfaces. Splashes of original mint red are evident on both sides, likely sufficient to earn this piece a Red and Brown designation.

1797 1/2C C-1, 1 Above 1 MS66BN PCGS #35101

CAC - Ex Missouri Cabinet

1842 1/2C Original PR66RD PCGS #1262

CAC - This Premium Gem proof is stunning. Walter Breen discussed this piece in his Half Cent Encyclopedia: "At least one has the same kind of fiery brilliance as the 1841's; I have not seen this piece recently enough to verify if it also has the peculiar edge of the 1840 coins on this stock [Ex Charles A. Cass, "Empire": 107.] Others are more subdued in color, even when mint red." Richard T. Coleman, Jr. has extended the provenance of this piece back to the 1895 Richard B. Winsor sale of the Chapman brothers. A hint of light brown that has formed on the fiery orange surfaces of this amazing piece. Ex: Donald G. Partrick Collection

1793 1C S-5 MS66BN PCGS #35447

CAC - "The surfaces have faded from mint color magnificently, blending electric blue, pale violet, rose, and gold tones that enflame under direct light and mellow with indirect light to a perfectly placid deep tan. The lightest color, that closest to mint red, surrounds the peripheral legends. Deeper tones halo the date and LIBERTY on the obverse, and appear to pull away from the legends on the reverse. The fields are lively and reflective, vigorous with luster and prooflike in texture, framed by high upset rims on both sides. The detail is definitively raised, showing each engraved hair strand and leaf vein. The beaded borders are boldly rounded, each fully defined but for a small group in the upper left obverse." Ex. Charles J. Dupont, D. Brent Pogue Collection

1793 1C Liberty Cap, S-13 VF30BN PCGS #35489

CAC - S-13 - Dark brown, slightly glossy surfaces. The strike is good, with full beaded borders.

1838 1C N-10 MS66+ BN PCGS #37207

CAC - "Choice lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown."

1943-D 1C MS68+ PCGS #2714

CAC - PCGS lists only six coins in this grade with a Plus designation. A sharp strike and brilliant, undisturbed zinc luster produce unbridled eye appeal and technical quality.

1853 3CS MS67+ PCGS #3667

CAC - Ex Pogue

1854 3CS MS68 PCGS #3670

CAC - "The mint luster is thick and frosty, the strike is essentially full, producing complete detail on all peripheral elements -- remarkable in itself. Finally, the patina, consisting of flecks of iridescent cherry, cobalt-blue, mint-green, pale lavender, and amber-gold, is especially attractive, contrasting against light silver-gray areas." Ex: he Bob R. Simpson Collection, Part III

1866 5C Rays PR66+ DCAM PCGS #93817

CAC - "The coin is beautifully preserved and well contrasted, with fields that are more deeply mirrored than usual for the Shield nickel type. Every detail is sharply brought up, and the coin is brilliant save for tinges of champagne warmth around the outer peripheries." Ex. The Bob R. Simpson Collection, Part II

1910 5C PR68DCAM PCGS #93908

CAC - The Only PR68 Deep Cameo Certified in the Series. The fields show astounding depth of reflectivity. Likewise, the devices are heavily frosted. The combination yields the always-elusive Deep Cameo contrast. Each side presents as brilliant, but closer examination shows there is just the slightest hint of color present. As indicated by the PR68 grade, there are no contact marks on either side.

1913 5C Type 1 PR68 PCGS #3988

CAC - "A satiny glow radiates boldly on both sides, amplifying the razor-sharp devices and delicate toning. A ring of tangerine-rose yields to sky-blue and silver color."

1840 H10C No Drapery MS67+ PCGS #4321

CAC - Wonderful rainbow toning on both sides which varies from russet to gold with a touch of blue. The toning deepens around the reverse rim, while the centers are brighter with antique flecks of color intermixed. Boldly struck and the coin has reflective field surfaces, reflecting careful die polishing.

1805 10C JR-2 MS66+ PCGS #38769

CAC - "Both sides of this remarkably well preserved 4 Berries dime offer violet, sky blue and golden pastels on highly lustrous and satiny surfaces. Liberty's portrait stands out with bold to sharp definition. The hair detail, in fact, is just a few strands shy of complete. The reverse delivers full wing feathers for the eagle and very well struck stars. Intriguing die clash (as made) is observable around the central motifs. Exceptionally attractive and among the finest examples extant for the type, issue and variety". Ex. Douglas C. Kaselitz Collection

1836 10C JR-3, Block 8 MS67+ PCGS #38890

CAC - A SUPERB rolling luster has vivid, smooth cartwheels that are totally uninterrupted when this coin is twirled in a light. The fields possess a bold satiny frost that is completely without flaw. There are zero breaks to the frost. The devices are incredibly sharp, from a precision strike from the JR-3 die combination. Both sides display a wonderful pastel iridescent toning. Shades of baby blue, clear gold, and rose come to life in a light.

1882 10C PR69 PCGS #4779

CAC - "A remarkable proof type coin. Rich powder-blue and lilac-red toning alternates across undisturbed surfaces." Ex. The Bob R. Simpson Collection

1874 10C Arrows MS67+ PCGS #4668

CAC - Both sides have original forest green/magenta colors that blend into deep champagne/pale green colors. Miss Liberty and the details are sharply struck. The eye appeal is excellent.

1893-O 10C MS68+ PL PCGS #84801

CAC - The finest 1893-O Barber Dime. Ex. Stewart Blay

1877 20C PR67+ CAM PCGS #85305

CAC - The finest graded at PCGS

1796 25C Browning 1 MS64 PCGS #38919

CAC - Reddish-purple, electric-blue, and gold toning clings to the borders, transitioning to yellowish-green toward the centers where it blends with aqua-blue on the obverse and soft silver-gray on the reverse. The surfaces of each side are almost wholly prooflike. Sharply struck design elements complement the magnificent toning. Liberty's hair strands and all curls are well-delineated, as are the eye pupil and drapery folds. The eagle's head is much better struck than seen on most other 1796 quarter dollars, revealing crisp eye detail and a full tongue

1815 25C Browning 1 MS66+ PCGS #38942

CAC - Browning-1. The finest 1815 quarter graded by PCGS. Both obverse and reverse glow with satiny luster, cartwheeling over silver gray surfaces blushed with peach and tinted with violet, gold, and pastel blue. Every design element is fully struck, each obverse star shows its complete center, and nearly every border denticle is bold and rounded, showing softness only to the left of 12:00 on the obverse, right of 12:00 on the reverse. The eye appeal, encompassing the superlative luster, elegant color, and complete detail, is perhaps unsurpassable. The Jimmy Hayes 1815 Quarter Ex. Pogue.

1861 25C PR68CAM PCGS #85557

CAC - Sole Finest Known. "This unparalleled Superb Gem proof is in a class of its own. The immediate centers of each side remain silver-white, surrounded by bands of amber, rose, and cobalt-blue patina, turning into deep jet-black in the fields. The strike is full throughout both sides." Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection; Eugene H. Gardner Collection; Important Selections from The Bob R. Simpson Collection; La Collection du Chateau de Tamia.

1874 25C Arrows PR67+ CAM PCGS #85575

CAC - "This spectacular coin is the sole-finest 1874 Arrows proof quarter certified in either Cameo or Deep Cameo finish -- a high-end Superb Gem, with a pinpoint-sharp strike and the all-important PCGS Plus designation. Exquisite turquoise and russet-tan toning decorates each side, suggesting original proof set color."

1896 25C PR68DCAM PCGS #95682

CAC - This stunning 1896 Barber quarter proof displays the desirable white-on-black appearance to maximum effect. Struck with pinpoint precision, the snow-white motifs float above jet-black fields that exhibit unfathomable depths of watery reflectivity. The delicate proof surfaces are exquisitely preserved and virtually pristine on both sides of this majestic Superb Gem specimen.

1917-D 25C Type 1 MS68FH PCGS #5709

CAC - The only MS68 Type I Standing Liberty Quarter Endorsed by CAC. The detail is excellent, not only on Liberty's head but on the small feathers of the eagle. Strong mint luster swirls beneath deep and gorgeous patina, which covers the surfaces in patches of peach-umber, green-gold, and muted powder-blue.

1795 50C O-121a ,Y over Star MS64 PCGS #39257

CAC - A remarkably flashy coin, with cartwheel luster that would better match a coin several grades higher than the grade assigned. Vibrant golden toning with shades of rose covers both sides, accentuating the burst of light from each spin of the luster. The strike is remarkably sharp, showing flat stars on the right side of the obverse but making up for that area of deficiency nearly everywhere else. The vestiges of planchet adjustment that criss-cross the reverse are nearly all obliterated by this bold strike, though relics of them remain at center, near ST of STATES, and a few other areas. No heavy marks are seen, but the obverse shows some hairlines, including a short diagonal line on Liberty’s cheek and a longer vertical one that crosses it. The Y over the erroneous star is easily seen under low magnification. The eye appeal is breathtaking, and precious few examples of this type have anything remotely resembling the luster and surfaces of this coin. The Dr. Judd - Foxfire Coin

1797 50C MS65+ PCGS #6060

CAC - "Beautiful and original multicolored toning cascades over both sides of this stunning high-end Gem. Gold and silver-gray coloration imbued with whispers of soft bluish-violet, orange, and russet predominate, accented with splashes of deep electric-blue, violet, reddish-gold, and purple at the upper-right and right obverse and on the lower-right quadrant of the reverse. Reflective prooflike fields highlight the frosty central motifs, yielding a pleasing degree of contrast on each side. The design elements are sharply struck, including individual strands of Liberty's hair and curls. The eagle's wing and tail feathers are bold, as are the talons. A curving, as-made lintmark is visible just above Liberty's cleavage, and light horizontal adjustment marks at the left and right reverse border do not affect the clarity of the letters in UNITED and AMERICA. The few minuscule marks that are visible only under a glass are insignificant and unobtrusive. Indeed, the surfaces on both sides are remarkably well-preserved." This easily one of the two finest 1797 halves certified. Ex: Farish Baldenhofer Collection (Stack's, 11/1955), lot 676; Norweb Collection (Bowers and Merena, 11/1988), lot 3027; Dr. Haig A. Koshkarian Collection (American Numismatic Rarities, 3/2004), lot 76; Stack's (7/2008), lot 4261, The Collection of Oliver Jung (Heritage, 8/2014), lot 5582, The Jim O'Neal Collection of U.S. Half Dollar Types.(Heritage, 1/2023), lot 3701

1833 50C MS68 PCGS #6163

CAC - One of two MS68 coins for the Type at PCGS (4/24). "The overall color scheme is one of reddish-orange patina yielding to vivid electric-blue highlights at the denticles. The right obverse, however, displays mottled sea-green overtones intermingled with silver-tinged near-brilliance. The impression is expertly centered on the planchet with fully evident denticulation bordering devices that are sharply delineated in virtually all areas. Lustrous with a softly frosted texture, the surfaces are uncommonly blemish-free."

1837 50C GR-4 MS66 PCGS #531050

CAC - Superb deep gray obverse toning features rich olive and subtle golden-amber highlights, the latter of which become brighter at the peripheries. The reverse is lighter, with pleasing gold color and glimpses of bright blue near the periphery. With its attractive color, thorough luster, and fine surface frost, this piece offers excellent aesthetic appeal. The strike is sound, very bold at centers while yielding a bit on some peripheral elements, including star 7, the arrowheads, and the tops of the letters in CENTS. The quality of this piece, with its color, surfaces, strike, and technical preservation, is as nice as could be hoped for at this grade level.

1839 50C No Drapery MS64+ PCGS #6230

CAC - The finest endorsed CAC coin (as a plus) - A very challenging coin. "Each side displays medium-density reddish-golden patina, with accents of blue around the margins. There is no sign of the reverse die cracks that some business strikes and proofs alike exhibit." Ex: The Jim O'Neal Collection of U.S. Half Dollar Types

1859-S 50C WB-6, Medium S MS68 PCGS #524239

CAC - The finest graded CAC for the type

1906-S 50C MS68+ PCGS #6507

CAC - The Finest Known Once Graded MS69 NGC - I still have the label. From the Hugon Collection"The frosty mint luster rolls over each side, unimpeded by the usual impairments seen on these larger-sized silver coins. Formidable eye appeal is created by the gorgeous colors that grace each side, which also brings up the subject of originality, a characteristic that is unquestioned on this piece. Gray-golden toning in the centers is framed by aqua and sea-green at the peripheries." One of the finest Barber Half Dollars.

1794 $1 MS64 PCGS #6851

CAC - The Famous Lord St. Oswald-Norweb 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar. Condition Census #4 of Only Six Mint State Examples Known

1795 $1 BB-52, Centered Bust MS65+ PCGS #39995

CAC - "This Gem is extremely well struck, especially evident in Liberty's hair and on the eagle's breast. The highly lustrous silver surfaces are nearly flawless, with only a few light reverse adjustment marks. A few trivial field marks are visible when the coin is closely examined, but they have no effect on the overall eye appeal. The luster is bright and softly frosted, with shimmering, reflective fields." Ex. The Bob R. Simpson Collection, Part II

1800 $1 MS65+ PCGS #6887

CAC - This is the Single Finest 1800 dollar of ALL varieties graded at PCGS, and it had not been offered publicly since the 1977 Bowers and Ruddy sale of the Fairfield Collection. "A superb coin with full luster under lovely lilac, sea-green, and iridescent toning. Virtually flawless. Except for the gorgeous natural toning, this coin is in the same condition as it was when it left the dies nearly two centuries ago." Ex. The Fairfield Collection, Bruce Morelan Collection.

1836 $1 J-58, Gobrecht Restrike PR65+ PCGS #11217

CAC - The Norweb Name Below Base 1836 Gobrecht Dollar. "The fields on both sides are deeply mirrored, surrounding devices struck well enough to educe every fine detail from the dies. The force of the strike has upset a fin or wire rim around both sides from 5:00 to 11:00. Carefully preserved since its moment of striking, this coin's featureless obverse field shows only very minor hairlines and a single small mark near the denticles just above 3:00. Several lintmarks are noted, including one immediately left of C. GOBRECHT F., another near the elbow of Liberty's pole arm, one left of the base of the cap, and another at the denticles near 11:00, parallel to Liberty's lips. The immaculate reverse shows lintmarks below A of DOLLAR and left of the star under C of AMERICA. The toning is ancient and lovely, featuring light tones of blue and rose on the obverse that appear milky gray away from a light source but erupt into a cavalcade of pastels in a direct beam. The reverse is similar but more intense, with milky gray tones yielding a spectacular range of blue, violet, and rose that bespeaks ancient and well-guarded originality."
