1834 Mint Set with Gold

The six-piece 1834 Mint Set contains no great rarities. All of the coins are rather common dates for the period and continued in the pattern set in 1829 when the Half Dime returned to production after a nearly 25 year hiatus. If you're looking for a simple, basic set representative of the period, this would be a great choice. The Act of June 28, 1834 reduced the weight of the Quarter and Half Eagle, and beginning in the late summer, coins with the new "Classic Head" design replaced the older Capped Bust style. Nearly all of the "old standard" gold prior to 1834 had been exported and/or melted, and despite what appear to be healthy mintages for the Half Eagles, less than 1% remain. This set has two Quarter Eagles and two Half Eagles, the earlier Capped Bust design being quite rare in all grades.
