The reduced weight for the nation's circulating silver coins (Half Dime through Half Dollar) was marked both by arrows at the date, and enormous mintage figures to replenish the supply of circulating coins depleted by years of exports and melting. As a result, none of the "With Arrows" silver coins is at all difficult. However, because production of the Arrows coins did not begin until April, some "No Arrow" coins of the old standard were made in the first few months of the year. Of these, the 1853-O Half is the standout rarity, with only four specimens known and all are well-circulated. Expect to pay about a quarter of a million for even a low grade example.
