1863 Mint Set with Gold

With the nation mired in a Civil War, low denomination silver coinage was hoarded, and very little was being struck in Philadelphia making the Half Dimes and Dimes from this mint quite scarce in any grade. While San Francisco struck a higher quantity, most of it was circulated, and Mint State pieces are infrequently found. The larger silver coins (Quarters, Halves and Dollars) are of only average rarity for the period, though the Dollars in top Mint State grades will not be cheap. The gold holds no surprises, assuming you are already aware that high grade gold from this period is both rare and expensive. Only 1,218 Eagles were struck in Philadelphia this year, but in a series such as this, that mintage isn't even close to the lowest. Nonetheless, it is one of the series rarities. In addition, Philadelphia struck no Quarter Eagles for circulation. Double Eagles from shipwreck recovery are around, although the grades above MS-62 are still quite scarce.
