The 1883 Mint Set stands out for two reasons. The first is the presence of three Nickel five cent pieces. The final Shield Nickel is joined by both varieties of the new "V" or Liberty Nickel; both with and without "Cents." The second, is the 1883-S Morgan Dollar - a major condition rarity. As is seen often on Morgan Dollars, it is a common date in circulated grades, then escalates rapidly in Mint State. Of course, the Quarter and Half are low mintage issues, and the humble Three Cent Nickel is also scarce this year.
