The severe deflationary recession of 1920-21 took its toll on coinage production with nearly all the minor coins showing extremely low mintages. The resurrection of the Morgan dollar also was responsible for the reduced output of Cents through Halves. While all five minor denominations were struck, the Halves in particular were made in tiny quantities, with the combined mintage from all three mints totaling only one million pieces. Even in mid-circulated grades these are four figure coins, and in MS-65, the 1921-S can approach six figures. The Nickel, Dime and Quarter are also all scarce, due to their low mintage.
