No halves were struck in San Francisco in 1938, and no quarters appeared from Denver. However the new Jefferson Nickel did make its appearance. Production didn't begin though until some 7 million Buffalo Nickels were made in Denver, (nearly all of which were apparently saved in mint state, and nearly all of which seemed to have acquired light golden toning!) So the Mint Set for this year contains 14 pieces. This set includes the 1938-D Half, with the third lowest mintage of the series. A mint state piece is not terribly difficult to find, but getting a top grade one won't be cheap.
