Start This Set
Despite being in the middle of World War II, all three mints continued in full operation, each striking all five of the circulating denominations. The two lowest (non silver) denominations substituted other materials for the more critical war metals of copper and nickel. The cent used zinc-coated steel, and the five cent coin used a 35% silver alloy to replace the nickel and reduce the amount of copper used.
