1855 Proof Set with Gold
Required Items
Possible Set Rating
1855 is an unusual year for a complete Proof set, as the gold denominations are represented by the gold dollar and the three-dollar issue. The quarter eagle, half eagle, eagle, and double eagle are currently unknown, although reports of several of them have been reported in the past (the eagle is the most reliably reported of the four denominations). The gold dollar and three-dollar coin are both extreme rarities, extremely popular with collectors. The half cent and large cent are available; the silver denominations are scarce to rare. The complete Proof Set (minus the four gold denominations currently unknown) is still one of the most challenging Proof sets, as pre-1856 Proof coinage is rare for all denominations.
