The 7-piece Proof set for 1862 has a mintage of 550 pieces and nice examples of each remain available given a bit of searching. The Dollar of course is the key, but nice examples can be had for just over $10,000. The other coins in the set are all of average rarity for the era, and perhaps the most surprising thing is that despite being embroiled in a Civil War, the mint was able to produce these at all. The mintage of 35 pieces for the gold coins, as expected, results in some very rare pieces today. Our auction records show only one PCGS certified Double Eagle offered so far this century.
