1879 Proof Set with Gold

The eight piece 1879 non-gold Proof Set contains no major rarities. With 3,200 of the base metal and 1,100 of the silver coins struck, none of the copper, nickel or silver issues should present any undue difficulty in acquiring. With only 30 pieces struck for each of the six gold denominations, the job is considerably more challenging. In fact, a PCGS-graded Proof 1879 Double Eagle has not appeared at auction in seven years. Less than half of the original mintages are estimated to have survived.
