The Proof Set for 1896 was typical of the late 1890s and early 1900s, with an Indian Cent, Liberty Nickel, three Barber Silver coins and a Morgan Dollar. Average silver coin mintage for the period was around 700-750 pieces of which most have survived. Proof Gold, as usual, is very rare. Mintages ranged from 50 to 100 pieces as a general rule, and perhaps half have survived. Appearances are few and far between.
