1914 Proof Set with Gold
The 1914 Proof Set continued the pattern set the previous year, with the Cent and Nickel struck in a matte finish and the three Barber silver pieces in the more familiar brilliant, mirror finish. Mintages this year were a bit below average, with only 380 Quarters and Halves struck. Including the matte proof gold ups the ante considerably, with nice Double Eagles well into five figures. The price aside, they are quite scarce, and none have appeared at auction since 2012. The Eagle is also very tough, and the last PCGS certified piece appeared in a 2002 Heritage Sale.
