1981 Proof Set with Major Varieties

In 1981, two distinct types of "S" mintmarks appeared on Proof coins. The first type showed a rounded look at the top surface of the serif, while the second type appeared flatter. The Type 2 style mintmark is the scarcer of the two. The 1982 Set with Major Varieties includes both types for a total of 12 pieces. The Cent is the tough coin here... only 11 PR70DC Type 1 cents have been graded, and NO Type 2 cents have yet achieved that grade. Therefore, the maximum rating for this set stands now at 70.933.
