The 1998 Proof Set is the last of the small Proof sets, coming just prior to the advent of the State Quarter Program and subsequent Dollar coin issues. It contains the basic five circulating coins, plus the three largest denominations (Dime, Quarter and Half) struck in 90% silver. After this year, the size of the Proof sets would more than double, as five different State Quarter issues in both clad and silver would be included.
