EDL's Coin Album
Superb album toning graces this 1920 standing liberty which also received a full head designation because this coin probably sat in an album after its short run in circulation.
Gold CAC ex. David Sunshine, paradime- Toned. Bust Half. GOLD CAC. Rattler. Better Date. There is a little left you can ask from a Bust Half Dollar. If you needed or wanted only one Bust Half Dollar, this is the coin you would like to buy. We believe PCGS back in the day likely thought the toning on the high point as wear. This present example looks better than most MS62 in todays holder. Regardless of the grade, the coin is under-graded and a monster. With attractive cobalt blue throughout the devices splendidly mixed with splashes of sun-yellow, the coin is a beauty to behold. - Note: When this example was slabbed there was no distinction between Large 8 & Small 8. The correct PCGS # now is 6097 not 6096.

CAC & Rattler, ex. Hamilton/Graves Heritage says: The misplaced letters UNI are prominently visible between 50 and C at the lower reverse of this Choice AU half dollar. This important variety enjoys a separate listing in the Guide Book. Both sides exhibit faint hairlines that undoubtedly prevent a higher grade. The obverse has pastel gold, blue, and iridescent toning. The reverse has light gold toning at the center, within a blue peripheral frame.

o.107 "Acapulco Gold" Beautiful coin exhibiting very nice sporadic toning. Many colors are displayed across this coin mostly on the rims. I like to think this is a mosh pit of color, because the many different colors that are visible on the coin.
GOLD CAC Heritage says: The highly sought Gold CAC label indicates this sharp and original Overton-103 example is deserving of an even finer grade. This Choice coin is struck from a heavily clashed die state, with the peripheral elements drawn to the edges, extensive die wear, and a heavy die line from the scroll to the left (facing) wing. Forest-green and bluish-gray toning yields to golden luster at the borders that adds extra eye appeal to this ultimate, collector-grade O-103.
Sheridan Says: Album toning graces this high grade example of a popular Red Book variety. The eagle’s head and surrounding devices are softly struck -- as usual. Exceptionally nice surfaces. If this is your grade level, this is your coin. A July 2002 acquisition from your cataloger.

Impressive peach, purple, and green toning dominates both sides. Minimally abraded and attractive. The curls and claws show minor wear. A late, clashed die stage with peripheral elements drawn toward the rims.
o.101 Stacks says: Boldly struck throughout and retaining some luster in the fields and a pleasing silver-gray hue with a dash of pale gold. Clean surfaces as no distracting marks are noted. The tops of the 7 are clear peeking out from the top of the second 8.

Richly toned in shades of turquoise, gold, rose and chestnut. Charlton Meyer found the coin in a September 1986 Stack’s sale (lot 62). I offered it privately in 2008. It was last seen in Heritage’s January 2011 FUN Show sale (hidden in an Internet-only session). The coin is every bit as nice as the similarly graded, CAC approved specimen offered this past January in MB 57, lot 73, @ $3,493.

Sheridan Says: Antique grey, jam-packed with luster. Too much for a mere “50.” Thus the coveted gold CAC sticker. The surfaces are virtually free of contact marks. Slight wear on the high points, none in the fields – just the way my daddy told me an AU coin should be. A faint toning streak crosses the obverse, star 3 to star 8.

o.142 CAC- The luster on this 1827 is crazy considering the grade. Bright flashy luster hits you and with the toning this coin is a wonderful example of the Square Base 2.
CAC o.102 This coin, and the next lot are two highlights of the present auction. While “only” AU55, these are two of the most stunning bust halves colorwise we have had the honor of offering. Brilliant, frosty silver centers yield to rich, concentric rings of rainbow color, evidence of decades of storage in a Wayte Raymond or other old cardboard album. It is clear that these two lots were a part of the same old time collection. PCGS 144, NGC 32, CAC 21. Throw away the price guides and don’t bother looking at the APRs. This coin is so wonderfully toned that if it was a Morgan dollar, it would garner a 9+ on our 10-point color scale. If the Northern Lights Collector was putting together an AU set of Bust halves, this would be his 1834! How many old time colored halves like this still exist? Good luck finding another! We expect to see world record bids when this one closes.
Legend Says: Beautifully toned on both sides, with a ring of aqua-teal at the rim, melding into an amber-orange-gold in the centers. The design elements are nicely defined by a crisp, exacting strike and there is only a touch of light wear on the surfaces. Inspection with a strong glass reveals some light, long toned over marks which have a minimal overall impact on the outstanding eye appeal.

Paradime says: Wildly toned Reeded Edge Capped Bust Half Dollar, 1837 50c is one of the only readily available dates for the 50 Cents Reverse and type without doubling or tripping the budget. With a stunning design, this coin shows eye popping peripheral hues. With deeper red centers that transitions to purple, ocean-blue, sky-blue, yellow and others, this is a great coin to have in a collection. Seldom do we find this date and type with collectors in circulated condition, save for a comparable AU55 PCGS CAC that sold for $1,920 04/22 ST. The present example colors and toning far exceeds the that of the CAC, though the originality of that example is superior. In hand this coin is absolutely pops. Wildly toned Capped Bust half have gained tremendous popularity and this will draw huge numbers of interest.
CAC Paradime says: This 1849 Open Wreath Gold Dollar, certified VF35 by PCGS and verified by CAC, represents a desirable mid-grade survivor from the first year of the denomination, struck amid the fervor of the California Gold Rush. The Open Wreath subtype—distinguished by the visibly separated olive leaf tips at the base of the reverse wreath—is significantly scarcer than its Closed Wreath counterpart and signals an early die state in the series. With a PCGS population of just 3 pieces in VF35 and this only example at CAC, this coin stands as an elite opportunity for those seeking the absolute single best toned gold dollar. Warm, medium honey-gold coloration blankets both sides, deepening in the protected recesses around Liberty’s portrait and the reverse wreath. The fields remain smooth and softly granular, with uniform wear that leaves all central details fully outlined and untouched by cleaning. The coin is clashed with bright blue hues when tilted under the light, whilst in hand hints of dark orange-gold toning provide subtle visual lift, while the texture and color both confirm untouched originality. Through out any comps, this is the simple best.
"The American Warrior" Insanely toned $2.5 Indian. Superb rim toning is present on the obverse. The reverse is covered in toned spots.
This coin in hand looks like small copper round. The gold has toned so much it has turned a dark brown.
CAC - Warm, original color bathes this AU53 in rich honey gold with russet and blue highlights hugging the rims and low points, while real luster still peeks through the fields and settles in the protected recesses. The wear is even and balanced, with a touch of friction that fits the grade, and the surfaces are pleasantly untouched by anything more than honest circulation. Detail remains strong throughout, giving the piece a killer, original toned gold look and excellent eye appeal. Housed in a PCGS holder and approved by CAC, this example checks all the boxes for a wholesome piece of early gold.

This Norse Medal is a very special one, the toning on the top right on the obverse makes it stand out from the other medals which are usually all white.

ex. Revick Very original Colorado gold. This coin has the desired dirty look which tells you it has a great history, I can not imagine what this coin has seen in its life.
o.111a CAC Finest Known Sheridan says: Early "Bearded Goddess." A highlight of the Sale. Near finest known of the die state. A+ eye appeal with stupendous iridescent toning. Lovely surfaces save for a horizontal contact mark across the shield. Ex Jerry Buss, Downey, Hilgard, Dosier and Prouty. Acquired at the 2000 ANA Convention in Philadelphia.

CAC Legend says: This lovely AU is among the finest known for this RARE and popular issue. While considered to be Rarity-5 by experts, there are not enough to satisfy demand, and anytime one appears at auction, regardless of condition, the collectors flock to it. This one has a pleasing silver-dove tone overall with accents of tan and gold. Much frost clings to the surfaces, giving it a pearly look. There are some minor friction lines, and perhaps a hairline or two, none that are distracting. The strike is decent for the variety, which is often softly impressed on the eagle’s wing. HA says: . Ex: Link. An unchallenged "demand rarity" of the early Capped Bust series -- and a star of the entire Lettered Edge half dollar series. The Bearded Goddess ranks high on the wantlists of innumerable Bust half and die anomaly enthusiasts. The 1807 O-111 variety is remarkable in many ways, not the least of which is its rarity in both the very early and very late die stages. The early die state is undoubtedly rarer, but the late-state Bearded Goddess wins the popularity contest hands down. Less notable but equally important, the denomination is blundered on the reverse, ostensibly a 5 over a mispunched 2, yet the real drawing card of this About Uncirculated coin is the long die crack that runs, Rasputin-like, between the chin and chest. Here, it is equally strong from the headband all the way toward the bottom rim, ending left of 1 in the date. A parallel crack curves through the left-hand stars. Mint luster remains in protected areas on both sides of this smoothly worn, silver-gray example, where it gleams at the margins and among the crevices of the central motifs. The devices are well-struck for the variety, visibly so on the wing with only occasional high point incompleteness elsewhere. Rare this nice, among the top half-dozen or so Bearded Goddess examples in the advanced die stage.
CAC ex. The Samuel Berngard and S.S. New York Collections Stacks 7/08 Deep golden gray surfaces with intense sky blue, sea green, and pale heather toning iridescence on both sides. No heavy marks present, indeed, choice for the grade.
Paradime says: Gold CAC, Bust Half, Attractive toning and an important 1814/3 overdate make this coin the definition of having all the bells and whistle. Halloween-orange fills the coin perfectly evenly on both surrounding the devices creating a halo-like effect as attractive sea-green peak between the date. Significant luster is present whilst character defining clash marks are seen. Some strike weakness is noted on the reverse feather as well as some toning on the high point, all of which are commonly seen on 1814/3 and was likely confused for wear. We grade this AU55. No doubt a must have and you will not be disappointed.

Ex. Hansen CAC Sheridan says: You like color? You will love this coin. A rainbow of iridescent hues blankets the pretentious obverse. The more modest reverse cheerfully offers a beguiling halo of color through the legend. A generally soft impression comes with the late die state and is of secondary importance.
A beautifully toned AU55 example with bold greens, blues, and golds throughout. A sharp strike shows very bold definition and the details are very frosty with a rich satin glow when viewed in a light. The eye appeal is exceptional.
CAC- This coin is super flashy with very pretty album toning, lovely bust half and a great edition to the 55+ set.
GOLD CAC o.102 Sheridan says: Subtle rainbow hues grace the smooth, lustrous surfaces. The balanced strike comes with high rims and a complete set of dentils. The eye appeal of the coin held special appeal for CAC. Here is a nifty coin for your date or type set. This as appeared in MB 30, lot 85, 2005. I offered the following description: Subtle indescence pervades the pastel grey, aqua and rose toning Softness in the left wing is part of the strike, not wear. Uncommonly distinct dentils and high rims.
CAC Delectable grey dirt toning. Absolutely original surfaces. Friction on the cheek and breast. Nowhere else. Deserves an AU 58 designation. Lot 34479 from the Nov. 2013 Newman sale @ $1,057.50, where Keith again outbid me! He later crossed the coin to PCGS, losing the CAC sticker. NGC AU 55 label accompanies.
The twin of the previous lot. Soft silver centers yield to rich rainbow toning at the periphery. You can tell that these two marvelously toned GEM AUs were stored together for decades in the same old album. The colors are spectacular and these two coins need to be seen in hand to be truly appreciated. O-107. R-1. PCGS 195, NGC 132, CAC 40. Again, toss away the price guides and don’t even bother with APRs. The toning on this one is ever so slightly less vibrant than the previous lot, but nonetheless, we rate the colors as an 9+ on our 10-point scale. Truly a beauty and a coin that really will bring a record price for an AU55 1835 half. The opportunity this pair presents for the collector is one that should not be missed! As stunning as any of the coins in the Northern Lights Collection, and no doubt will realize a world record price! Good luck!
CAC - The fields on this coin are extremely proof like. This coin almost has a cameo look due to the liberty and eagle being non-proof. This coin is very beautiful and extremely reflective.

Previously CACG50 HA says: The mintmark is clearly repunched south, and a bold die crack spans the lower right obverse border. These are characteristics of GR-1, the usually encountered New Orleans Bust half dollar die variety. This is an exemplary example with lovely apple-green, golden-brown, and cream-gray peripheral toning. Much luster remains, and no marks are of any notice. CRO says: About the prettiest 39-O Half we’ve ever seen, and we’ve looked for these in earnest for a long, long (long) time. With lovely sky blue, sea green, rose and golden toning, lustrous surfaces and looking more like Choice AU to this author, though we are pleased to offer it in this conservatively graded CACG slab.
